FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: Where do you meet?

A: Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jasper, GA.

Q: When do you meet?

A: We meet on Thursdays throughout the school year, taking the month of December and most of January off.

Q: How much do classes cost?

A: Please see the pricing page on our website. We offer needs-based scholarships, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need assistance.

Q: When does registration close?

A: Registration closes on August 17, but you get a discount on your registration fees if you sign up by June 30.

Q: Do we sign up for a semester or the entire year?

A. The commitment is for the entire year. We do take part of November, all of December and part of January off so you can catch up on schooling! We allow students who are 6 and under to sign up in January, but the students are too far behind if they enter the older classes partway through the year.

Q: What makes you a Christian organization?

A: We sometimes sing/play Christian songs that glorify God, we will not sing/play songs that bring dishonor to God, we may discuss God and pray in our classes, and we open our concerts in prayer. This is not an exhaustive list, but it gives you an idea of how our faith affects our organization.

Q: Do you have a dress code?

A: We do require students to dress modestly and not wear hats.

Q: Do you have a uniform?

A: Yes. For concerts requiring a uniform, students 9+ will be given a uniform to wear at the concert. The guys wear pants, vests, and ties; and the ladies wear a dress.. A comprehensive list of concert attire is given at uniform fitting, but please don’t hesitate to ask us if you need further clarification before then. The uniform cost is built into the registration fee, so you don’t have the extra expense of buying a uniform every year. (You’re only responsible for shoes.)

Q:  Can my kids play in the parking lot or on the playground?

A:  Sure.  You will need to supervise them.

Q: Can I wait in the fellowship hall with/without my kids?

A:  Yep! If your child is not in class, they must be in the care of a parent. We ask that you enforce SOP’s rules when your student is not in class: students must be supervised by parents when not in class; students are not allowed anywhere in the church except for the fellowship hall and their classrooms; and students are not allowed to yell or run inside the building. If you need a quiet place to study, please ask us and we will show you where to go.

Q: I played the guitar in high school. Can I sign up for a class?

A: Absolutely! We love families who play music together, and we love it when parents take our classes! We only charge the registration fee for parents. Because of the differences in voices of adults, we don’t allow parents to join choir, but they can join any of our instrument classes.

Q: What happened to the dance classes?

A: A dance program called Footsteps is available for students 12-18, and since the majority of our students attend that, we didn’t feel the need to duplicate it at Sounds of Praise. For more information about Footsteps, see their website: https://sites.google.com/view/foot-steps-dance-club/home.
